Nicholasville Police Officer Killed In Crash

Sources are confirming that a Nicholasville police officer has been killed in an accident Wednesday morning.
Kentucky State Police officials confirm that Burke Rhoads was driving a Nicholasville Police Department cruiser.  The cruiser was one of three vehicles involved in an accident in Garrard County Wednesday morning.
Officials say the accident occurred when the driver of a white vehicle pulled out onto US 27 from Rodgers Road when her vehicle clipped Officer Rhoads' vehicle.
His vehicle then spun into oncoming traffic and was hit by the driver of a black SUV. The three people in that vehicle were taken to UK hospital.
An official cause has not been released in the crash but Kentucky State Police tell LEX 18 that foggy conditions may have reduced visibility.
Rhoads was heading home after training in Richmond when the crash occurred.
Rhoads is survived by a wife and three children. He was an eight-year veteran of the department.
The crash happened around 7 a.m. along US-27 in, near KY-1845 and the Jessamine County line.
Police have shut down US-27 in the area
